Spring Cleaning Means Garage Cleaning
Spring is almost upon us and that means spring cleaning. But when it comes to spring cleaning one of the most overlooked rooms in the house is the garage. An article last spring from closetsdaily.com consumer trends for organizational projects around the home. Garages were consistently rated the space people most wanted to organize but lacked ideas on how to organize it. Garages are increasingly become the main entrance point for a home so having a well organized and presentable garage is becoming more important.
Another trend affecting Garage organization is that garage sizes have been shrinking in new homes. The share of homes with three-car garages fell from 19.4 percent in 2005 to 15.8 percent in 2009, according to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).
Shrinking garage sizes means garage organization is need now more than ever to take back the garage from the clutter. A survey done by CLOSETS magazine found that the most desired feature of a garage project was for more cabinet space with 94% of respondents requesting it. Cabinets were followed by Slatwall at 67%, shelves at 65%, and counter tops at 64%. Despite the downsizing of garages in new construction homes, garage organization projects are on the upswing. Home organization businesses saw a 20% increase in Garage related projects between 2008 and 2010 according to the 2011 “State of the Closet & Home Organization Industry” benchmark study.
